“Down the Road”

“Down the Road”

Senior year is quickly coming to an end

Prom and graduation are right around the bend

Before I know it, I will be well on my way

To a new beginning, at a school far away

Going to school at Ole Miss will be both thrilling and frightening

To be so far away and know no one is not really heightening

My spirits of how well this new journey will go

But then I think of the opportunities and how I will grow

My future is unknown with where this new adventure will take me

But I’m sure where ever it is, there will grow a tree

A tree whose roots that will become bigger and stronger

With each connection that keeps me there longer

A new school, friends and additional family

Will mature and age this growing tree

One that will be made up of

A tree filled with life and rooted with love.

“Senior Service Nightmare”

“Senior Service Nightmare”

All seniors get the privilege of leaving school in May

But you must be a good student and have at least a 3.5 GPA

Senior service gets you exempt from all finals and work for the rest of the year

But what will I do? Has become the question I fear

I want to go into criminal justice after school

So helping at the police department would be cool

I asked Officer Wilde but he said because of liability

They could not have me and this crushed my felicity

Back to square one I thought of the fire department to volunteer

But what hours I could work was unclear

So I called the chief to talk about a meeting

But they hours he gave me were not worth completing

Now senior service is less than a week away

Finding a new place to volunteer is something I cannot delay

So I went to talk to Mrs. Harle about a different place

She recommended the nursing home in town, which brought a smile to my face

This is in town and close by

And is also something I would love to try

Now the stress is gone since I’ve found something new

I am beyond excited to start and now that my searching is through.

Ole Miss vs. Butler

"Ole Miss vs. Butler"

The time has now finally come
To visit the schools I’d like to attend
It was down to Ole Miss and Butler
But I couldn’t decide which I’d like to attend

First I went to visit Ole Miss
I was nervous and scared that I wouldn’t like it
But as soon as we landed, I fell in love
Everything just seemed like a perfect fit

From the miles of open space and beautiful farms
To the cute town right outside the school
The breath taking campus had my heart
And having to leave so soon was just cruel

Next up came Butler University
Which I had my doubts about
I didn’t think anything could match up to Ole Miss
But my heart decided to take a different route

The campus was stunning and just the right size
It consisted of everything I was looking for
From whacky traditions and lively campus life
To challenging academics and much more

Both universities were shockingly incredible
However, I made a deal with my father
To wear the shirt home of the school I chose
So when we got home I could surprise my mother

Butler was so close to my family in Indiana
But their criminal justice program didn’t have much variation
Ole Miss on the other hand had such a variety
But was nowhere close to family, which caused nothing but frustration

In the end I had to make a decision
Which I like to think of as a mature one
To let go of my comfort zones and do what was best
For my future that is to come

So I went home wearing red, white and blue
Being an Ole Miss rebel was right around the bend
It started off as Ole Miss vs. Butler
But it was Ole Miss that won in the end.

"The Start of Golf Season"

"The Start of Golf Season"

I have played golf for the past three years

And now it is my final season

Of playing this sport that I love so much

And enjoy for so many reasons

In this sport you compete with other teams

However, you don’t come in contact with anyone

Therefore, you’re just looking to beat yourself

And take fewer strokes than any you’ve done

I was also surprised with new clubs for Christmas

I was so happy I practiced with them right away

My swing was great and I was hitting the ball straight

A promising season for me was on its way

This was until a couple of weeks in

I began to see a slice in my swing form

If I kept hitting the ball to the right

Then my best game won’t be what I perform

I was able to catch some one on one time

With my coaches at practice one day

They told me my wrists weren’t rolling over

This was making my ball go the wrong way

They taught me a trick to help my wrists roll over

Separate my first finger from the rest

This helped me automatically

Fix my swing and help me play my best

With opening day coming on Tuesday

I can’t wait to start counting up my scores

With my swing fixed and ready to go

Low numbers is what I’m hoping for.

"Jump Rope or School?"

"Jump Rope or School?"

Every year in the month of February

Our high school chooses a day for jump rope for heart

This day is dedicated for those with heart problems

And grades compete for the most money on the chart

Seniors and juniors jump periods one, two and three

Sophomores and freshman jump during periods seven and eight

I had already missed two days of my classes

Due to the academy presentations that could not wait

I didn’t want to fall behind on my work

But I did want to jump on that date

Do I miss classes again and risk my grade?

Or do I stay and settle this debate?

I decided to stay and play it safe

And this choice made was such a good thing

Because now I am caught up on my work

Only good grades is what this will bring

"Scholarship Nightmare"

“Scholarship Nightmare”

I travel with the girls’ basketball team
I do the books for the Lady Knights as I watch the game
Keeping count of all of the shots and fouls
The excitement is enough to make you go insane

But scholarship deadlines were approaching
And there were three games scheduled that week
I didn’t have time to write any essays
The thought of this made my parents freak

They told me no games until I wrote the essays
The books are my responsibility, how can I not go?
I asked coach for some time off to write the essays
This is something I knew I should’ve done a long time ago

I missed two games and ended up staying in that weekend
To write the dreaded essays and send them in
I finally finished them and was beyond excited
To be back at the games like I should’ve been

"Online Course"

"Online Course"

It is now the second marking period
There is now a new task for us all to do
All of the members of the Academies
Are to take a course of whatever they choose

I grew excited as I heard this news
I knew exactly what course
Criminal Justice was what came to mind
I just have to find a source

That was where the problem was
Finding the course was harder than I thought
I went through many websites
Nothing but stress is what this task now brought

The deadline for choosing now came close
At this point I was looking more and more
All of the courses I was finding
Didn't contain what I was looking for

This was until the night before it was due
I finally found the course I wanted!
But the site wouldn't let me subscribe to it
Now by this point I was feeling taunted

I then chose to wait until the next day
Straight to the guidance office I went
There they helped me figure out the problem
This much time spent was not my intent
